Viscose rayon is a man-made regenerated cellulose

Viscose rayon is a man-made regenerated cellulose fibres where are polyester is a synthetic fibre. Viscose rayon has great versatility and it is produced in various forms Viscose rayon has the largest share of world’s man made fibre production Raw material for viscose rayon is wood pulp It is cheap and has a wide range of applications, however not as strong as polyester. Viscose rayon absorbs water, whereas polyester absorbs less or not at all. Polyester dries faster than viscose rayon, polyester fabric is wrinkle resistant however viscose is not. Polyester resists abrasion and viscose does not. Polyester is stronger than viscose. polyester does not shrink unlike viscose Polyester is hard to dye, an expensive dye should be used ( disperse dye ) since the polyester fabric has is 90 % crystalline region,Therefore has very low moister absorption. Polyester is mildew resistant where are viscose is not, since it’s from the cellulose.(wood pulp) There is high pilling in viscose,may need to dry clean, has low resistance to abrasion,on the other hand polyester has high resistance from pilling and abrasion. Viscose originaly has a high luster however,they go through the delustering process (titanium dioxide) to reduce thier luster. Polyester also has a high luster. Viscose is mostly used for undergarments and outer apparels whereas polyesteris used mainly for performance wear ,party wear and has various other uses. Viscose drapes well so it’s comfortable and soft , absorbs moisture and can be easily dyed. Polyester is a very poor heat and electricity conductor. It melts giving a plastic burning smell. Viscose Rayon is a poor heat conductor, and has a low heat resistance. Polyester could be heat set, which means it could change its shape when heated however it should be heated to galss transition temperature. On the other hand viscose rayon cannot be heat set it would degrade since the viscose fibre is a high absorbent, it would have some amount of moister stored within, thus when the fibre is heated the fibre would degrade. Viscose rayon has a 50% lower wet strength than of dry strength, the strength of polyester doesn’t change when wet or dry.
